Some songs sound really good, while others (from the same dang signal) sound worse. What I’ve learned over past few years with this system (and the Macan Bose as well), it all depends on the source. BUT, I also did a BTB comparison (in a VERY quiet setting) with my Spotify Premium, and my Spotify sounded almost as good. Yeah - I played with it too over past few days. OP is not crazy, something interesting is going on here
The sound seems to have much more depth and base where as the original instance of amazon music sounds more flat. If I select amazon music via carplay, it switches back to the other instance of amazon music and sounds different. If I have amazon music open via carplay, and then say "alexa play amazon music", it actually opens up another instance of amazon music and the sound does seem to be improved. There is definitely something going on here. I followed the instructions from the video to enable alexa.
